Profile and story
Meet Mathéo, a young Pokémon fan who is currently in remission from stage 4 neuroblastoma.
The star of the Coupe Charles-Bruneau in Quebec City, Mathéo brings his own unique world with him. How can you spot him? Look for the superhero fan who dreams of shooting webs like Spider-Man! ️
In November 2024, when he was just three and a half years old, Mathéo was taken to the hospital for pneumonia that wouldn’t seem to clear up. After several tests at the CHU de Québec, the diagnosis came: high-risk stage 4 neuroblastoma, with tumors and metastases in his bones. In a matter of hours, the whole family’s life was turned upside down.
Then began a journey of intensive treatments: chemotherapy, transplants, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy. Today, Mathéo is in remission and is completing the final stages of his treatment plan. Soon, he will return to the Charles-Bruneau Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Unit at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval only for follow-up appointments.
When he’s not in superhero mode, Mathéo loves playing Nintendo Switch, collecting Pokémon cards, and spending time at RécréOFUN. When he grows up, he’d like to become a doctor to help children who are also living with cancer.
To everyone participating in the Coupe Charles-Bruneau, Mathéo’s family would like to say thank you. Thanks to your involvement, children like him can access the treatments and research advances that are changing their future.
